About

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

Welcome to Great Commission Kentucky, a blog about how Kentucky Baptists are involved in fulfilling the Great Commission both across the street and around the world. It’s been born out of the latest big discussion in Southern Baptist Convention life — the Great Commission Resurgence – which refers to a call from Southern Baptist Convention President Johnny Hunt for the SBC to put a renewed focus and energy on fulfilling the Great Commission.

This blog is for the purpose of creating conversation space regarding the Great Commission Resurgence, Great Commission Task Force and the Great Commission itself as it applies to Kentucky Baptist life. It will examine how Kentucky Baptists are presently at work in seeking to effectively share the Gospel, explore ways to do things better and, in general, see what the Lord might show us all as we focus our attention on our mission. You may or may not agree with every post and that’s perfectly fine. The purpose here isn’t to tell you what to think but to provide good, clear, accurate information to help you think through various issues. If you have an idea or thought to contribute to the conversation, please do so. All opinions (respectfully expressed in a Christlike manner) are welcome! For more on the purpose of the blog, check out the first post.

The primary blogger is Robert Reeves, a layman from Louisville, Ky. Robert has served since 1998 as the communications director for the Kentucky Baptist Convention following previous service with the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children (now Sunrise Children’s Services) and Connie Maxwell Children’s Home (the children’s ministry of South Carolina Baptists). Going back more years than he cares to admit, Robert was a professional journalist with stints as a reporter for the Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and as editor and general manager for the Field and Herald, a weekly newspaper in Conway, S.C.

He is a 1982 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a 1998 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a master’s degree in organizational communications.

He is a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Louisville where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Robert and his wife, Elza, have two sons. Steven, a high school math teacher in Louisville, and Mark, a student at Western Kentucky Unversity in Bowling Green, Ky. Elza is a part-time bank teller and the pianist at Lakewood.
